Super crew chief and great racing mind Ray Evernham is very happy with his gig at ESPN right now and may very well be back as a race analyst. However there are some NASCAR teams that would love to have him back overseeing their operations.
This week Everham’s contract with Richard Petty Enterprises expired and allowed him to freely look into any and all options that racing maybe offer.
As the crew chief for driver Jeff Gordon the duo won 47 Cup races, 3 Cup championships (1995, 1997, and 1998) making them one most dominant teams in NASCAR Cup competition at the time as part of Hendrick Motorsports.
But Everham does not want to be a crew chief again and is looking at options that could reunite him with Rick Hendrick.
His goal is to work on the big picture and the overall development of racing teams as well as expanding the sport. He thinks perhaps that might be where he could fit into the Hendricks stable or for that matter anyone looking for a big picture kind of a guy.
”I want to be a project guy – on a project, see results, move on,” Evernham said in a recent conference call.
For now he is happy being a broadcaster but his talent’s in racing will likely land him back working for one of the top teams.
