Blame Game

Rudy Giuliani gave Rep. Ron Paul a lot of flak during the May 15 Republican debate in South Carolina, after Paul said that terrorists attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, because of America’s long history of bombing Iraq.

Giuliani snapped back: “I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before, and I’ve heard some pretty absurd explanations for Sept. 11.”

But when asked about the exchange this week, Paul didn’t back down from his words, even laying some of the blame at the feet of Vice President Dick Cheney.

“It was absolutely true,” Paul, R-Texas, told Yeas & Nays, adding that Giuliani simply “demagogued” his response. “They come here because we go over there.

“I blame about 12 neocons for a policy that has done a great deal of harm,” said Paul, who cited Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and Cheney as among the dozen.

Wait, does Paul really blame these guys for the Sept. 11 attacks?

“I blame them for the policy,” he said. “This has been going on for 10 years now.”
