Pols and poobahs

Politicians are really serious folks, right? So why were so many wonks at an event Monday evening honoring a picture book titled “What’s Your Poo Telling You?”

Well, co-author Josh Richman is a former fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I. His book, co-authored with Dr. Anish Sheth, is a “witty, illustrated, tell-all tribute to poo [that] demystifies the inner workings of the digestive tract and provides medical explanations for what one can learn about their health and well-being by studying what’s in the bowl.”

More than 40 supporting “poobahs,” including congressmen, staffers, wonks and pundits, headed to Leftbank to toast the book with a full house of attendees. Interestingly enough, the powerful Daschle family had a tough time coordinating their evening schedules: As Nathan Daschle served as host for the Poobah event, his father, former Sen. Tom Daschle, was simultaneously across town promoting the “ONE” campaign’s “Vote ’08” at a different event.

Families are supposed to work together, fellas. …
