After a competitive three-week training camp, the Capitals finally settled on their season-opening 23-man roster on Tuesday.
Defenseman Steve Eminger was placed on the injured reserve list before the 3 p.m. NHL deadline for final roster decisions. The organization placed forward Eric Fehr on non-roster injured reserve while forward Jakub Klepis did not make the team. He was in camp without a contract and likely will be traded or sign in Europe. Fehr, still battling hip and back injuries, is out indefinitely.
Eminger, 24, was the Caps’ first-round draft pick in 2002 and has played in 192 NHL games. He has a “lower-body injury,” according to a team spokesman, and appeared in just two preseason games. Eminger is not eligible to return for at least seven days. The Caps kept seven defensemen, including second-year players Mike Green and Jeff Schultz, 14 forwards, including face-off specialist Dave Steckel, and goalies Olaf Kolzig and Brent Johnson.
