Football on Thanksgiving doesn’t limit itself to the NFL. A rivalry in the college ranks with national championship implications will be played at 8 p.m. Thursday on ESPN.
No. 3 Texas and Texas A&M face off as part of the Lone Star Showdown — a competition between the two schools in various collegiate sports.
The rivalry is the third most-played in Division I-A college football and has been dominated by the Longhorns (74-36-5).
But that does not mean an upset won’t happen. The Aggies beat Colt McCoy two years ago when Texas A&M entered the game having lost four of its previous five games.
The Aggies have struggled at times this season, but have an impressive win over Texas Tech and kept it close against a ranked Oklahoma State team.
Their defense has let up some points — 65 to Oklahoma — but when two rivals play on Thanksgiving night anything can happen.
