Andrea Kremer is an award-winning journalist and respected NFL insider. But her new gig at NBC has her feeling excitement of a rookie again.
Kremer will serve as the sideline reporter on “Football Night in America,” NBC’s Sunday game of the week. She will also contribute to the network’ pregame show.
We spoke this week and the enthusiasm she has for her new job at NBC was a big part of the conversation.
Jim Williams: What made you want to be part of the new NBC Sunday show?
Andrea Kremer: Working for Dick Ebersol, the president of NBC sports, is such a great honor. He is the creative force behind what I think fans will see is one of the unique and exciting presentations of NFL football. We have some the best producers, directors and writers in the business and it is going to be something very, very special. To be a part of it is the highlight of my career.
JW: What is the most exciting part of your new job?
AK: To join a team that has some of the greatest group of NFL broadcasters in history was a huge draw. I love the people at ESPN and they are all very talented and I will miss them. However, to be asked to join a team with Bob Costas, Al Michaels, John Madden, Cris Collinsworth and Peter King is about as good as it gets. As for Sterling Sharpe, he is great guy and we worked together and Jerome Bettis is a natural for TV.
JW: It is college graduation time. Any advice for young women who want to get into sports broadcasting?
AK: The most important thing is to be versatile. Learn everything about the business both in front of and behind the camera or microphone. The more you know the more chances you have of getting a job.
NBC’s “Football Night in America” kicks off the season on Thursday, September 7 with Miami at Pittsburgh. On Sunday, September 17, the Redskins travel to Dallas in a game people around here might be interested in and NBC will have the coverage.
