Doesn’t get much better than this for regular-season NHL hockey. The Caps hope they have snapped out of their eight-game funk for good after two wins in a row. But tonight is a much bigger test as they face the Penguins for the first time this season in the HBO Bowl.
Michal Neuvirth is in goal again for Washington – his fourth straight start. And Bruce Boudreau has jumbled his lines. Alex Ovechkin skates with Mathieu Perreault and Eric Fehr based on the line rushes in warm-ups. Meanwhile, Brooks Laich, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Knuble are the second line. Alex Semin didn’t have his best game in return from injury/illness on Tuesday night. He’s on the third line with Jason Chimera and Marcus Johansson. The Hershey boys – Jay Beagle and Andrew Gordon – are on the fourth line with David Steckel at center. Defensive pairings are the same as recent games.
