…Redskins defensive end Andre Carter is optimistic that he’ll be able to play Sunday vs. Dallas. Carter tore his left biceps in Monday’s 45-12 loss to the New York Giants. He’s not sure if he’ll have surgery after the season; it’s up to him as some players opt for rest and others have the surgery.

But he wants to play.
“I’ve seen Phil [Daniels] play with it and I’ve seen other guys play with it,” he said. “I said if Phil can play, I can do it. I’m not really stressing over it. I want to play this week. It’s important for us to finish a season strong.”
…The injury report, for Washington: receiver Devin Thomas (ankle) did not practice; Carter, defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin (shoulder) and defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery (hip) were limited. For Dallas, fullback Deon Anderson (knee/illness), tackle Marc Colombo (ankle) and safety Patrick Watkins (knee) did not practice.
…Zorn is optimistic that Thomas will play. If he can’t, then Malcolm Kelly would start and Marko Mitchell would be active.
…Couple things from Monday’s game. One, the announcers criticized Rock Cartwright on one play in which he exited the backfield without chipping the end, right before Jason Campbell was sacked. But,on the play, there was no call for him to do so. If the back is supposed to chip, it will be part of the call. That enables the tackle to know how to set in his protection; he can play more to the inside.
…Also, there wasn’t much more Quinton Ganther could do to block a blitz through the A gap that led to a sack. He could have gotten there a little faster, but in reality the play was well-timed. New York did an excellent job of taking away Jason Campbell’s ability to make plays with his legs. That’s why they blitzed up the middle a few times.
…On the touchdown pass allowed by Reed Doughty, he and DeAngelo Hall had been switching in similar situations, when the receiver Hall was covering would make a certain move. Doughty anticipated something similar and was preparing to switch. But he was wrong and that led to Derek Hagans running wide open.
…Secondary coach Jerry Gray said some veteran defensive players spoke with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth about his comments after Monday’s loss. Gray said that Haynesworth is playing the same position in Washington that he did in Tennessee, a three-technique tackle. However, Haynesworth had more freedom in Tennessee.
Gray also said Haynesworth’s comments stem from a 4-10 record as much as anything.
“It’s frustrating when you are losing because a lot of things come out,” he said. “I’m pretty sure Albert would have had a better comment if he had been the Raiders trip when we got the eight sacks. When we’re losing games and you’re trying your best there will be some bad comments that come out. You have to squash those and go on.”
