It is great to see Rob Carlin who has been poping up all around the mid-lantic region as a sporst anchor land in a good spot.
Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, has announced that Carlin has joined the network as a television anchor and reporter. He replaces Russ Thaler, who is now the host of ‘NBC Sports Talk’ on VERSUS – which will be re-branded NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2
Carlin will serve as an anchor for ‘SportsNet Central’ – a position he has appeared in previously on a freelance basis – and will contribute to the daily news program as a reporter. In addition, he will host ‘Capitals Central’ and ‘Capitals Postgame Live’ for home games, with Al Koken continuing in that role when the team is playing on the road. The game-day shows, which feature analyst Alan May, make their season debut on Oct. 8 surrounding the Capitals’ regular-season opener vs. Carolina.
A veteran sports anchor and reporter, Carlin has strong ties to the Washington/Baltimore area and experience covering the National Hockey League. For the past two seasons, he hosted the New York Islanders’ pregame and postgame shows on MSG Network. Previously, the University of Maryland graduate served as a sports anchor and reporter with Baltimore’s WMAR-TV (ABC) for more than three years, where he covered the Orioles, Ravens and Terrapins.
“As an experienced sports reporter with a longtime connection to the region and knowledge of our teams, Rob makes a perfect addition to our talented group of anchors and reporters,” said Comcast SportsNet Senior Vice President and General Manager Rebecca Schulte. “In addition, he is very versatile and his experience covering hockey will be an asset to ‘Capitals Central’ and ‘Capitals Postgame Live’ this season.”
Carlin also covered the region during four years as a sports reporter and anchor with WMDT-TV (ABC) in Salisbury, Md., from 1997 to 2001, and as a sports producer for Baltimore’s WBFF-TV (FOX), where he worked for two years. He also spent time as a sports radio host on Baltimore’s 1300 AM (ESPN) and has made regular appearances on 105.7 The Fan.
Carlin’s other television sports experience includes work as a host for College Sports Television (CSTV), now known as CBS Sports Network, and as a sports anchor and reporter for WVTM-TV (NBC) in Birmingham, Ala., where he spent four years. More recently, he served as a freelance sports anchor and reporter with New York’s WNBC-TV.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., Carlin resides in Baltimore with his wife, Megan, who is an anchor and reporter at WMAR-TV. He can be followed on Twitter at @RobCarlin.
