Ewing celebrates 45th, as does Jamaica

Both Patrick Ewing and Jamaica celebrated their 45th birthdays Sunday with a party at the Organization of American States building. The former Georgetown Hoya and New York Knicks center was born in Jamaica. In addition to its 45th year as an independent nation, the country also commemorated its 169th year of emancipation from slavery and the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British slave trade.

Jamaican Ambassador Gordon Shirley was on hand, as were musical acts Jerry D, DJ Sprang International, Bare Essentials, the Image Band, Bob Andy and Shaggy.
