Brian Orakpo didn’t exactly lobby for the Redskins to pick Russell Okung. But he also made it clear that the Oklahoma State left tackle would be a wise addition.

“I’d love to see him here,” Orakpo said. “We need some blockers so we’ll see.”

Orakpo faced Okung while at Texas (he recorded a sack vs. the Cowboys as a senior when he went head-to-head with Okung; don’t know if the sack came on a straight rush vs. him, however). Here’s his scouting report — as well as a report on other Big 12 prospects:

“We had a good battle my senior year. He has great feet. He’s very strong and athletic for a tackle. Whoever picks him up will have a hell of a player. I know what type of player he is. He brings a lot to the table as far as stopping those big play pass rushers.”

On quarterback Sam Bradford: “He’s a great quarterback. We used to battle all the time, Texas and OU, you know how those games went. He leads his team real well and he makes some huge plays. He’s a smart intelligent quarterback. I wish him the best wherever he goes.”

On his former college teammate Colt McCoy: “Colt is a phenomenal player man. He’s a Drew Brees type player. He  isn’t tall but he plays big, he plays with a big heart and he’s a great leader. He’s an accurate quarterback. That’s one thing he is, he’s very accurate and he gets the ball in the right spot. And when there are broken plays he can make plays and turn them into huge gains. A great leader, a great person. Whatever team he goes to he’ll excel I know it.”

Orakpo was asked about Oklahoma’s Trent Williams, but he was a right tackle in college so he didn’t go against him. Our own note: if Williams projects to right tackle, as some experts suggest, then the Redskins should not consider him No. 4 overall.
