…Lorenzo Alexander is excellent in pursuit, but he also got shoved aside on a few runs up the middle.
…Would like to see Rob Jackson do something; but haven’t seen him do anything since early in camp.
…H. B. Blades had an excellent hit filling the hole on one run. However, he has a difficult time getting off blocks, which was evident on BenJarvus Green-Ellis’ 22-yard run. But Blades’ hit caused a fumble that Byron Westbrook recovered. That’s three turnovers tonight and it could have been even more. That’s a good sign.
…I will say, the crowd is rather lively for a preseason game. Chants of ”Defense! Defense” And the wave… I’d say they make a lot of noise for 69,384 fans except that I don’t buy that figure. There’s mroe than 20,000 empty seats.
…Anthony Alridge has shown a burst and, so far, has held onto the ball. On Alrdige’s burst around the end, the linebacker actually got off Eddie Wiliams’ block decently. But Alridge was around him so fast it didn’t matter, en route to a nine-yard gain. That’s speed. You don’t need to hold the blocks that long; you just need to get in the way.
…Alridge seemed to turn it up too soon on a pitch around the end.
…Just when I was starting to think good things about Chad Rinehart, he gave up a sack by getting knocked off-balance. Edwin Williams came in for him on the next play. Not sure if that was a coincidence.
…How on Earth could Colt Brennan take a sack on third and seven? He was trying to do too much on the play. Had they been 10 yards closer, that would have been OK, but he turned a 45-yard field goal into a 52-yarder by trying to get outside the pocket. Naturally, Shaun Suisham missed the kick.
…Alex Buzbee gets driven out more than I’d like to see.
…Eddie Williams seemed to have improved with his blocking, but a couple times he’s been too upright when colliding with the linebacker. He gets no movement. But, in reality, they’re probably stronger than him. So if he’s upright, he has no chance whatsoever.
…Please, no overtime!
…Jim Zorn did not want to put Colt Brennan in a bad spot on his last series of regulation; hence three straight runs from inside their own 10.
…Would like to know what Hunter Smith’s hangtime was on his last punt; did not seem to be that high.
…Thank goodness New England called a time out before the fumble with 12 seconds left. You don’t root one way or the other except for one thing: overtime in preseason.
