Senatorial Gaffe
One could be forgiven for concluding that Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., had lost his political marbles this past Thursday. As part of a statement released by his office in support of a day to honor emergency first responders,

Allard was quoted as saying: “First responders in Colorado have recently provided critical services in the face of blizzards and tornados. Since I don’t think first responders have really done anything significant in comparison to their counterparts who have dealt with real natural disasters, I have no idea what else to say here …”
Turns out, according to Allard Communications Director Steve Wymer, the unintentionally contrarian quote did not spring forth from the lips of the senator, but was rather the product of an internal miscommunication among staff who were drafting the statement.
Indeed later that day, Allard’s office released another version minus the offending quote, praising the work of first responders around the country.
Still, regarding the first version, Wymer conceded, “That was not good.”
