Mystics hope streak avoids Seattle damper

The Mystics’ current four-game winning streak is a signal to some the team has returned to its early-season form, when Washington sat atop the Eastern Conference after 10 games.

If it is such a return, the Mystics hope it does not mean their early-season road woes are also about to surface.

Before their renaissance that began in mid-July, the Mystics were an abysmal 2-8 away from Verizon Center. But the Mystics open a two-game road trip tonight in Seattle aiming to continue their recent success on the road, where they have won three of their last four games.

“Our goal isn’t to just make the playoffs, but to advance in the playoffs,” Mystics All-Star Alana Beard said. “In order to do that we have to be able to win on the road. These next couple of games will make sure that we’re ready to do that.”

A win in Seattle is far from a sure thing. The Storm are trying to hold onto the 2 1/2-game lead they hold own over Phoenix and San Antonio for the Western Conference’s final playoff berth.

“Our focus is on our team, it doesn’t really matter what the other teams have to do,” Mystics point guard Nikki Teasley said. “We need to focus on getting some wins on the road and continuing this success right into the playoffs.”
