Coaches are lining up to interview with the Charlotte Bobcats even after completing the worst season in NBA history. It’s not a case of who the Bobcats will choose. It’s who they can convince. Michael Malone has reportedly interviewed, but it won’t be the first job he considers. After finishing as the runner-up to Mark Jackson at Golden State last year, the Warriors made him the league’s highest-paid assistant ($750,000).
The Bobcats also have reported interest in fired Blazers coach Nate McMillan, Patrick Ewing, an assistant the past five years in Orlando, and Brian Shaw, who landed in Indiana after he was surprisingly passed over by the Lakers following Phil Jackson’s departure.

It would be a surprise if any coach made the leap before the NBA Draft lottery on May 30. What will be more curious to see is if any of them have interviewed by then with the Wizards, whose current silence has made league sources wonder if Randy Wittman is staying around. If he doesn’t, he should try to interview with Charlotte.
