The New Orleans Saints needed 43 seasons to deliver its first title, escaping an unpleasant fraternity. Sad thing is, most of the teams on this list are not close to a title (note: it has to be a team that is still in its original city):
1. Houston Astros (48 years) » They lost in the World Series in 2005. It’s safe to bet that the wait will surpass a half-century, even if there is a renewed emphasis on the farm system.

2. Milwaukee Brewers (42) » They made the postseason two years ago, but are now in another transition period. Too much pitching is needed to think about winning this year and possibly next. Their only World Series appearance resulted in a seven-game series loss.
3. St. Louis Blues (41) » They lost in the Stanley Cup Finals in each of the first three seasons, but have not returned. They have some good young talent, but they won’t make the playoffs this year. They’re several years away.
4. Los Angeles Kings (41) » Not even Wayne Gretzky could deliver a Stanley Cup. But the young, and still rebuilding, Kings are fourth in the West with 75 points and are the closest of this bunch to winning anything.
5. San Diego Padres (41) » They’re 0-2 in the World Series. They do have some interesting prospects, having used some in August and September. This year? No. Five years? Perhaps.
