Father-son mixup

Two generations of Clooneys were in town Wednesday night, and they couldn’t even manage to say hello to each other.

George, of course, was in town to film “Burn After Reading,” the Coen brothers’ vehicle that also stars Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.
Meanwhile, his dad, Nick Clooney, a journalist and unsuccessful candidate for Congress from his native Kentucky in 2004, was at Atlantic Video with Martin Luther King III for the premiere of AmericanLife TV’s “Poverty in America” documentary.
Not only did they not get together, they didn’t even know the other was around until it was too late. Nick said he called his son’s house in Malibu earlier in the day because he was concerned about the wildfires raging in Southern California. He was told that George was actually in D.C. Then, to add to dad’s disappointment, he found out that his son was filming throughout the night.
“There wasn’t even any time for us to get drinks together,” he lamented.
On the issue of Darfur, a cause in which both have been active, Nick said the two of them divide the labor as “retail and wholesale.” That is, Nick takes the retail side, going out and evangelizing among crowds, while George takes the wholesale side by presenting to the United Nations and such.
In related news, speaking of the Coen brothers, Joel Coen was spotted at Restaurant K on Wednesday night. His brother and the rest of the talent were nowhere to be seen.
