River Hill?s football team outscored the opposition 440-14 en route to going undefeated and claiming its fifth straight Howard County title, but junior running back Michael Campanaro put the Hawks? success into perspective on Sunday.
“It means nothing because we?re now 0-0,” Campanaro, who has scored 27 touchdowns, said. “All that matters is if we win our next game.”
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association announced the 64 football teams that qualified for the state playoffs on Sunday morning. The single-elimination tournament opens with region play, with first-round games held Friday and Saturday.
The winners advance to region finals on Nov. 23-24, with the state semifinals being held on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The state finals will be held at M&T Bank Stadium from Dec. 6-8.
For Campanaro and the top-seeded Hawks, they?ll host Charles County?s McDonough (7-3), the region?s fourth-seed, in the first round of the 2A South Region Tournament on Friday night at 7 in Clarksville.
