The Redskins landed their fourth receiver this offseason; this time it’s a veteran — and not Santonio Holmes.
Washington agreed to a one-year contract with free agent Donte Stallworth. The Redskins had drafted three receivers in April and will re-sign Santana Moss after 6 p.m. Friday. Holmes agreed to a deal with the New York Jets. The Redskins also agreed to a deal with quarterback Kellen Clemens.
Stallworth appeared in eight games for Baltimore last season catching two passes for 82 yards. He broke his foot last summer. Also, he was suspended for the 2009 season after pleading guilty to a DUI manslaughter.
Stallworth told Scout.com, “It will be fun. I know Santana Moss, too. It will be a good chance for me to do some things. It’s a good opportunity I’m definitely excited for the opportunity. The coaches talked to be, both Shanahans. “I’m hearing from both Shanahans that I would have an opportunity to work my way in and do some good things with the offense. I’m not asking for a handout. I just want to show what I can do.”
He later told 106.7 The Fan that, “It helped that I have Jim Haslett there, who drafted me coming out of college. We had a long conversation. I trust him a lot….All I’ve wanted was an opportunity. I’m not looking for a handout. I’m a hard-worker.”
