Earning a seventh straight NCAA bid will be a stretch for injury-riddled Navy (5-5), which lost Friday at Georgetown, 13-12, in OT. Maryland (6-2) tries to rebound from an 11-10 loss to Virginia, which came despite four goals from Will Yeatman, who started for the first time at attack. After beating Navy 11 straight times (1993-2003), Maryland has lost five of the last six, but still leads the series 49-33-1.

The teams have not met since the opening round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament, a 14-10 Hoyas’ win. But now they are foes in the newly-formed Big East. With consecutive losses to Rutgers and Villanova, Notre Dame (5-4) is struggling after going undefeated in the regular season in 2009. GU (6-3) is having an uneventful season, going 0-3 against teams ranked in the top six and 6-0 against everybody else.

Loyola (7-2) runs into hot Fairfield (6-2), which has won four straight with eye-opening wins over Notre Dame, 10-8, and Hobart, 14-5. Loyola is rising behind defender Taylor Ebsary, who held Ohio State’s top scorer, Logan Schuss, without a goal and had four points in the Greyhounds’ 11-9 win Saturday. Loyola ranks No. 3 in the NCAA in defense (7.1 goals per game) and leads the series 9-1.

Both the Orange (7-1) and Tigers (7-1) sustained their lone losses when standout defenders John Lade (Syracuse) and Chad Wiedmaier (Princeton) were out of the lineup. Both are back and at full speed. The teams have combined to win 16 of the last 22 NCAA titles. Syracuse leads the series 16-9. Princeton is led by attack Jack McBride (18 goals) and dynamic freshman Jeff Froccaro. Syracuse answers with Chris Daniello (14 goals, 15 assists).
