Orioles fans are excited about the 2010 season. There is hope that this year will be the season that the Birds will get back to their winning ways. The first step starts tonight against the Rays.
This year all of their 162 games will be aired in high definition on MASN.
Things get underway at 6:30p.m. O’s Xtra will start the night off with Jim Hunter and Rick Dempsey returning to their pre and post game duties.
Garry Thorne, Jim Palmer and Amber Theoharis will again be the primary broadcast team for the Orioles.
However replacing Buck Martinez who is now the play by play voice of the Blue Jays will be a very familiar face former O’s lifer Michael Flanagan who has served the team as a player, broadcaster and member of the front office.
Talking to Flanagan about his return to the broadcast booth he was excited.
JW: You know this team as well as anyone. Is this the year the O’s turn the corner?
Flanagan:”I think this is a fine young team with great potential but as all teams we will only go as far as our starting pitching will take us. I think that Kevin Millwood was a great pick up, he not only will bring wins to the team but also be a great mentor to the young guys on the staff.”
JW: Do you look forward to returning to the broadcast booth?
Flanagan:”Without question I do. Since I was doing color on the telecasts before I have had some great experience in the team’s front office. Now I can not only bring fans insight from a former players perspective I can give them the plenty of background on how these players made it to the majors and how that process works.”
On the radio side once again the pre and post game show will feature Tom Davis and Davey Johnson. The O’s flagship station is 105.7FM The Fan Baltimore and ESPN 980AM in Washington.
The game broadcasts feature two of the best in the business Joe Angel and Fred Manfra. Also new this year will be Jen Royle’s reports all day long in her new role as O’s beat reporter for The Fan.
