D.C. United will renew its rivalry with CD Guadalajara (Chivas) and take on current title-holders from Major League Soccer and the Mexican First Division in the second edition of SuperLiga, a competition between top clubs from the United States and Mexico, announced Thursday.
Placed in Group A, United will host Chivas on Saturday, July 12, reigning Mexican Apertura 2007 champion Atlante on Tuesday, July 15, and two-time MLS Cup winner Houston on Saturday, July 19, all at RFK Stadium.
United does not have a single regular-season match scheduled during July.
D.C. lost two-game series to Chivas last year in the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup and the Copa Sudamericana.
Group B consists of MLS teams Chivas USA and the New England Revolution as well as Mexican clubs Santos Laguna and CF Pachuca, which won last year’s inaugural competition.
The semifinals will be played July 29 and 30, with the final on Aug. 5.
