Paris Saint-Germain replaces Juventus as D.C. United summer exhibition foe

It went from a D.C. United exhibition against Juventus as part of a doubleheader at FedEx Field to D.C. United versus Juventus at RFK. Now it’s still at RFK, but it’s Paris Saint-Germain instead of Juventus. July 28. 7:30 p.m. (not 6 p.m., as was planned for TV purposes before).

That’s a lot of shifting and changing for a game that doesn’t mean anything.

But the Qatar wealth-infused French side, which was founded in 1970, should be an entertaining friendly opponent for United following a second-place finish in Ligue 1 this season with a 23-5-10 record.

PSG is managed by Carlo Ancelotti – who’s previously been in charge of Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus – and led by 23-year-old Argentinean attacking-midfielder, Javier Pastore, the 2010 Serie A young footballer of the year. After 17 goals and 12 assists in two seasons with Palermo, “El Flaco” has 13 goals in 33 appearances for PSG.

The PSG roster also includes French midfielder Jeremy Menez, Brazilian winger Nene – no, not the Wizards center – Italian midfielder Thiago Motta, and Uruguayan defender and national team captain Diego Lugano.

The match is still Special Game 1 for D.C. United season ticket holders, and no tickets purchased for the Juventus game need to be exchanged. Refunds for these tickets are also available at the outlet of original purchase. Advanced tickets go from $30 to $75 before increasing to $35 to $85 on game day.
