OK we are only in week three of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup series but the gang at the Roush-Yates engine shop seem to have put together a stable great power plants that has made Ford the cars to beat each week thus far.

Thus far Trevor Bayne won at Daytona in the Woods Brothers #21 Roush-Yates powered Ford, then last week before crashing his #99 Ford it was Carl Edwards who has the class car on the track.

Now here we are at the wild 1.5 mile Las Vegas International Raceway and the first two rows of the starting grid for today’s Kobalt Tools 400 have Ford Blue Ovals on them.

A look at the Top Ten shows that pole sitter Matt Kenseth leads the Ford parade that includes Marcos Ambrose, Carl Edwards and his teammate Greg Biffle. Then comes the Joe Gibbs racing team Toyota’s of Kyle Busch and Joey Lagano. In the 7th spot is another Ford with A. J. Almendinger at the wheel. Then finally in 8th Ryan Newman pilots the first Chevy in the field followed by Martin Truex, J.R. in another Toyota and in the 10th spot is the crafty Mark Martin driving the #5 Chevy.

While both Ford and Toyota seem to have the faster cars that does not always mean a win at Las Vegas.

This a track where the Hendricks team of Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon has done very well in the Chevy powered machines.

Johnson leads all drivers with four wins at Las Vegas while Gordon and Mark Martin have the most Top 5 finishes with 6.

So this should a fun race on a great race track with plenty of great racing to see.
