Player of the Year

Matt Lee

Churchill, senior

The 6-foot-1 Lee was the leading vote getter in balloting by Montgomery County coaches for postseason honors. Big hitter, strong jump server, outstanding all-around. Four-year starter led Churchill (12-3) to its third straight division title and fourth appearance in the Montgomery County final four in the last five years. Will play club at the University of Maryland.

Coach of the Year

Sang Ahn, Blair

Was in two championship games this year — one as a player and one as a coach. Ahn, a senior at the University of Maryland, played outside hitter for the Terps club team which was runner up in the Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships in Salt Lake City in April. A month later, Ahn, in his rookie year as coach, guided an inexperienced Blair squad to its second straight Montgomery County championship.

First team

Jeff Moy

Sherwood, junior

Setting to an inexperienced crew, Moy led the Montgomery County runner up Warriors to their second straight division title and first undefeated regular season in program history.

David Lloyd

Seneca Valley, senior

The 6-foot-2 Lloyd, a key player for the Screaming Eagles’ division and region championship basketball team, was a force at middle hitter, registering five blocks per game.

NimaZabihi

Rockville, senior

Three-year starter gave the Rams an explosive presence on the outside. Zabihi led Rockville (13-2) to its third appearance in five years in the Montgomery County semifinals.

Armando Rosso

Churchill, junior

The lone repeat choice on the first team, Rosso, a 5-foot-9 setter, was instrumental in feeding Player of the Year Matt Lee and guiding Churchill (12-3) to the Montgomery County semifinals.

Jay Chang

Blair, junior

Was dominant as the Blazers (15-1) beat Sherwood in three games in the Montgomery County title game. Chang was a force in the Blazers’ 2005 title game victory as well with nine kills and four aces.

Ben Steinberg

Watkins Mill, senior

In just his second year of volleyball, the 6-foot-5 middle hitter provided a formidable presence at the net for the 7-6 Wolverines. Plans to walk on the basketball team at Towson.
