s not in town only to play golf; he’s also here to schmooze with some bigwigs, too.

Woods is set to tee off bright and early this morning — 6:30 a.m. — in the Earl Woods Memorial Pro-Am at Bethesda’s Congressional Country Club. Following his round, Woods will join George H.W. Bush at the Blue Course’s first tee, where Bush will strike the ceremonial first shot of the AT&T National Tournament. It’s only appropriate for Bush to tee it up — you’ll recall that Bush’s grandfather, George Herbert Walker, was once a president of the United States Golf Association. A military band and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon also will be on hand to celebrate America’s birthday and the tournament’s role in supporting the U.S. armed forces.

After the cameras have clicked (and after Bush’s shot hopefully lands dead center in the fairway), Woods will enjoy further quality time with 41: Yeas & Nays hears that the two will have lunch together at the Club’s Senate Pub restaurant.
