Redskins returner/receiver Brandon Banks, recovering from a stab wound, was moved to the Virginia Hospital Center of Arlington on Wednesday and will remain there for at least another two days under the care of Redskins team physician Dr. Anthony Casolaro.
Banks’ agent, James Gould, said in a statement that the stab “nicked his lung creating a pneunomothorax condition.” Banks still has a chest tube inserted, which will remain until his wound heals and, Gould said, his lung remains inflated.
Banks and a friend, Christopher Nixon, was stabbed in an altercation outside a D.C. nightclub Saturday morning. According to the police report, Banks was not the instigator of the incident. Banks was stabbed in the upper abdomen.
Gould had said Banks could be released as early as Monday, but his wounds had not healed sufficiently. Gould said they’re hopeful the tube will be removed Friday. If the lung does not respond, then Banks would undergo what Gould termed a “commonly performed procedure using a scope” to repair the lung. He would be released within 48 hours afterward.
“We expect 100 percent recovery where he can resume his offseason training in two to four weeks,” Gould said. “Brandon is in good spirits, especially after speaking with his friend.”
