The biggest obstacle in Blair’s path to a perfect regular season could be Sherwood (6-1, 2-0 4A East), which will host the Blazers on May 2.
In her first full season as the Warriors’ sole starting pitcher, junior Dana Ward has thrown four no-hitters and amassed 114 strikeouts, giving her nine games to reach her goal of 200 for the year.
“This year it’s her show,” said Sherwood coach Pat Flanagan, “and she wants the ball.”
The Warriors have averaged over eight runs a game while giving up only four runs all season. Seventy-five percent of those came in a 3-2 loss to Watkins Mill on March 30.
Sherwood’s number three and four hitters have earned their positions in the batting order, with sophomore right fielder Kathy Holonich batting third — she has hit in every game — and junior catcher Katie Obal in the cleanup spot with a .636 average.
