They didn’t garner headlines, but both are interesting MLB draft picks — and both have ties to the Nationals:
Washington’s fourth-round pick, high school pitcher A.J. Cole, was rated as a first- or, at worst, second-round talent. He’s a lanky 6-foot-5 lefty who throws 94 mph. However, he’s committed to the University of Miami.

“Right now I go both ways; it just depends on the situation,” Cole told the Orlando Sentinel before the draft. “I just want to play baseball. If I go to Miami, I can still play baseball, and if I go professional, I can still play.”
Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs drafted Bryce Harper‘s older brother, College of Southern Nevada teammate Bryan, in the 26th round. He’s a pitcher.
“[Bryan’s] a manchild,” CSN coach Tim Chambers told the Grand Junction Sentinel. “I tell people don’t be surprised to see Bryan in the big leagues before you see Bryce. A 6-6 left-hander who can really throw. … He’s darn good.”
