The John Carroll School?s boys rugby team played three games in Argentina from April 13-24. Paul Barker, the principal of John Carroll and founder of the rugby team, said that Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. made a similar trip the past two years.
“We heard the rugby was good and the trip was affordable,” Barker said. The Carroll team went 0-3 on the trip, but Barker said the players benefited from the games. “They play rugby more like soccer. It was educating to see them play,” he said.
There were 20 John Carroll rugby players and three coaches, 17 family members and team supporters with the group that stayed in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata.
John Carroll, under head coach Chris Powell, has gone 5-5 overall this season, and 3-0 in Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association play.
