A quick update to our story last Friday on whether D.C.’s most powerful men will be lighting up stogies — as is their custom — at tonight’s annual Fight Night fundraiser.
Turns out the city Department of Health approved the Fight for Children charity’s waiver application, so smoking will be allowed in the Washington Hilton Ballroom.

There are a few conditions — e.g., hotel employees cannot be forced to work, the charity must provide for ventilation and cleanup, etc. — but the tradition will live on. “Cigars or not, the generosity of the people who go to Fight Night gives children in D.C. hope for a brighter future,” said Jeff Travers, director of external affairs for the organization.
