Miller’s bench magic sparks Mystics

Washington Mystics head coach Tree Rollins said he had tossed and turned the night before, trying to figure out how to get Coco Miller more involved.

Coming off a bruised knee, the savvy six-year veteran guard hadn’t played more than 10 minutes but once in the Mystics’ last 10 games, and she didn’t play at all in Friday’s win over New York.

Rollins apparently knew something everyone else didn’t, as Miller showed few signs of rustiness Sunday in front of 8,395 at Verizon Center, clocking in with 16 points in 22 minutes off the bench as Washington topped Chicago, 71- 66.

“It feels good to get back out there, to be comfortable, getting in the flow,” said Miller who went 4-for-7 from 3-point range. “I really see this team making the playoffs — so I just want to contribute in any way I can.”

With the victory, the Mystics (12-15) surged ahead of the Sky (12-17) in the WNBA Eastern Conference standings, claiming fourth place — and a potential playoff spot — for the first time this season.

DeLisha Milton-Jones led Washington with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Alana Beard had 18 points. Candice Dupree had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Chasity Melvin had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Chicago.
