Report card from the Redskins’ Week 13 game at the New York Giants:
The early trend
S Kareem Moore set the tone with a missed tackle on the first series leading to a 39-yard run. The trend continued most of the game with missed tackles a culprit on two of the Giants’ next three touchdowns.
Under the radar
The Giants never gave Brandon Banks a chance to burn them. He did finish with five punt returns for 56 yards, but they used short kickoffs and pinned him to a side on punts. The Giants entered with the 30th-ranked punt coverage.
Did you notice?
Giants WR — and ex-Redskin — Devin Thomas blocked a punt in the fourth quarter that led to a New York field goal? Thomas wasn’t a factor on any other play, but even in Washington he was a good special teams player.
From the sidelines
New York’s coaches really didn’t have to go too deep into the playbook for this win. The Giants won in every phase of the game. Tom Coughlin did a good job preparing a team that came into the game dealing with numerous injuries.
It’s hard to see much defensive improvement this season. Yes, the Redskins had injuries, but so did the Giants’ line. Jim Haslett’s defense needs a major talent upgrade in the offseason.
