The White House on Tuesday corrected a transcript of President Trump’s press conference touting his new trade deal with Canada and Mexico after the original claimed he did not tell a female reporter “you’re not thinking.”
When Trump called on ABC News’ Cecilia Vega during Monday’s Rose Garden event, he joked she was “in a state of shock” that he had selected her among the press corps to ask a question while she waited for the microphone.
“I’m not. Thank you, Mr. President,” Vega said.
“That’s okay. I know you’re not thinking. You never do,” Trump replied, according to the new official transcript.
The previously transcription, released Monday night, stated Trump had said “you’re not thanking.”
“I’m sorry?” Vega responded.
“No, go ahead. Go ahead,” Trump said.
The exchange drew ire from social media pundits who were quick to use it as an example of Trump’s poor attitude toward women, particularly female reporters.
Trump was also criticized for pushing inquiries about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the new FBI investigation to the end of the press conference.
