Apprehensions at the border fell sharply shortly after Trump took office last year but they have gradually increased in recent months. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is running for re-election this year, has eagerly complied with Trump's request, dispatching hundreds of guard members and saying that the Texas contribution could reach 1,400 or more.
