    Since the lifting of the sanctions, European sources have provided most of the new Western investment in Iran, which has rich natural resources. Iranian exports to the European Union reportedly spiked by about 300 percent from 2015 to 2016. More recently, France's Total partnered with purchased a majority stake in a $4.8 billion energy deal with Iran.
