    After promising on the campaign trail not to support gerrymandering Virginia’s congressional map to give Democrats extra seats in Congress, Spanberger immediately reversed herself once in office by backing a redistricting initiative that will be put to voters in April. The proposal would increase Democrats’ advantage in the House of Representatives from a 6-5 distribution of seats to a 10-1 distribution, as seen below. The 47% of Virginians who vote Republican would be represented by 9% of their state’s membership in the House, while Democrats likely would control 92% of the seats.
