    The National Association of Homebuilders, one of the biggest relevant trade groups, made a consequential decision this month. They voted not to insist on the preservation of the mortgage interest deduction. Instead, the homebuilders made the call to try to work with lawmakers on finding other ways to incentivize housing, while pursuing the goal of lower tax rates.

    The medical device tax was created to help fund Obamacare. It charges a 2.3 percent tax on the sale of certain medical devices such as pacemakers and imaging devices like MRIs. More low-tech devices such as surgical gloves and contact lenses do not pay the tax.
