Iowa’s overall economic freedom ranking dropped from 27th to 33rd from 2020 to 2021, according to The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) annual Rich States, Poor States: State Economic Competitiveness Index.
This was the state’s largest placement drop since 2008-2009’s drop from 23rd to 35th place in the nation, according to the report, which ALEC released March 12.
