‘Could have been a death sentence’: MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough slams Trump for ragging on Romney coronavirus scare

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough took aim at President Trump for mocking Mitt Romney after the senator found out he does not have the coronavirus.

“Mitt Romney is … of the age that this could have been a death sentence for him. His wife has underlying conditions. So if he were positive, it could have been a death sentence for her,” Scarborough said Wednesday on Morning Joe. “Donald Trump cannot, even in these times, refrain from attacking somebody who is part of the United States Senate.”

Trump mocked the Utah Republican following news he had tested negative for the coronavirus.

“This is really great news! I am so happy I can barely speak,” the president said Wednesday on Twitter. “He may have been a terrible presidential candidate and an even worse U.S. Senator, but he is a RINO, and I like him a lot!”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski responded to Trump’s tweet by saying people in the White House should be questioning his stability.

The president told reporters, “gee, that’s too bad,” when news broke on Sunday that Romney would be quarantining after interacting with Sen. Rand Paul, whose coronavirus test came back positive.

Romney said he tested negative for the coronavirus on Tuesday.

Romney, who is at his home in Utah, said he would remain in self-quarantine at the guidance of his doctor. He said family members have been bringing him food, and his wife, Ann, who has multiple sclerosis, has been staying elsewhere while the Republican senator is quarantined at their home.
