The combination of so-so Democratic support for Joe Biden and the sustained GOP backing of President Trump is driving political gamblers to bet on a Trump reelection.
As a new Rasmussen Reports survey showed that 28% of Democrats wish the party would find another nominee, a site that aggregates political betting portals told Secrets that Biden’s odds of winning have slipped, while Trump’s remains at 1-1.
Oddschecker’s Pete Watt told Secrets that Biden is currently a 7-5 pick, giving him a “41.67% chance of success.” Trump stands as the favorite in a 50-50 call.
The odds, however, suggest an overall lack of enthusiasm for both as the nation’s focus is on the coronavirus and the fight to stop its spread.
“Given that one of them has to win, it feels like the electorate will go to the polls choosing the lesser of two evils rather than the best man to lead the country out of the crisis and into the new world,” said spokesman Watt.
Rasmussen, meanwhile, found that 54% of Democrats are satisfied with Biden as the nominee.
And, added the survey, Democrats expect Biden to be the pick despite the misgivings of over a quarter of the party.
