Democrats were handed a “big loss” in the Supreme Court’s Wednesday opinion that will allow government workers to opt out of unions they were previously forced to join and contribute to financially, President Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
“Supreme Court rules in favor of non-union workers who are now, as an example, able to support a candidate of his or her choice without having those who control the Union deciding for them,” Trump tweeted. “Big loss for the coffers of the Democrats!”

The ruling, however, has nothing to do with individuals’ abilities to support candidates, but instead says that public sector unions cannot force government workers to contribute to agency fees, which fund collective bargaining negotiations.
As a result of this 5-4 ruling, union leaders expect to see a major drop-off in membership and a big loss in financial contributions.
