McDonald’s franchises beg company to introduce chicken sandwich to compete with Chick-fil-A

Local McDonald’s restaurant franchises are pleading with the company to get some skin in the chicken sandwich game.

A board made up of representatives from thousands of McDonald franchises say a premium chicken sandwich menu option will help the local businesses compete with Chick-fil-A, which is dominating the markets they operate in.

McDonald’s currently offers nuggets, strips, and the famous McChicken, but no premium chicken sandwich option on its premier value menu.

“Chick Fil A’s results demonstrate the power of chicken,” the board said in an email to store operators obtained by CNBC.

If the stores want to compete, they need to make chicken a top priority, the board said.

Chick-fil-A recently ranked highest on the American Customer Satisfaction List and has announced massive expansions across the southeast and Midwest.

“You may not have Chick Fil A’s in your market or to the degree they have them in the southeast, but they are coming,” the board said in the email. “And they don’t discount.”
