In a state as dominated by Democrats as California, many thought a recall of Gov. Gavin Newson all but impossible. Yet, on the eve of the final voting day, Tuesday, Sept. 14, Newsom faces a legitimate threat from conservative talk show host Larry Elder. Recent polls show Elder’s momentum slipping, but widespread dissatisfaction with California’s taxes, as well as its endemic problems of homelessness, crime, and unaffordability and Newsom’s draconian COVID responses, have thrown a wild card into the race.
