The summer standoff between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and state House Democrats who fled to break a quorum on Abbott’s election reform law has come to an end. There were no arrests, as Abbott threatened. Enough Democrats returned to the Texas Legislature last week for a House vote on the bill with its inevitable consequence: Abbott now stands poised to sign the legislation that he says strengthens voter integrity, but which Democrats maintain restricts voting rights.
