Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, claimed on Friday that the Left’s current efforts to suppress ideas they don’t like or agree with is really a sign of weakness.
In an interview with the Washington Examiner at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Md., Cruz hit the recent rise of socialism that’s gripping the Democratic Party.
“If you believe what you’re saying, then you’re not afraid of dissenting voice,” Cruz said. “The socialists don’t want to actually talk about substance because their ideas don’t work. Socialism has produced poverty and suffering for billions across the planet.”
Cruz referenced the ongoing crisis in Venezuela as a prime example of the full implementation of socialism and how it has bankrupted the country.
The Texas Republican praised President Trump when asked how he’s handling the situation in Venezuela.
“I was very glad to see the president standing up, addressing Venezuela,” Cruz said. “And he has been making the point that Venezuela is not that socialism didn’t work, it’s that it worked exactly as it always does.”
