Jim Antle, the magazine’s executive editor, brings to life the pages of the Washington Examiner’s magazine in the show Inside Scoop. Each episode features exclusive insight from the article authors and expert analysis.

Is the newest accessory for the 2028 presidential election a book tour? On this episode, Antle reviews Vice President (and probably presidential hopeful) JD Vance’s latest book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. The book, Vance’s second, focuses on how he found his way back to the Christian faith through the Catholic Church.

“Certainly, there are few who are better positioned to be the Republican nominee than Vance,” Antle says. “Who has been given every opportunity to show leadership, to play an important role in the international stage, and he is currently the finance chairman of the Republican National Committee.”

Next in this episode, Washington Examiner editorial director Hugo Gurdon joins Antle to discuss why America’s 250th anniversary isn’t being celebrated by everyone, particularly on the left.

“There are two aspects of the left right now which are opposed to any celebration of the wonderful 250th anniversary of this country,” Gurdon says. “There’s the temporary stuff where they just, because this pendulum of politics swung against them, but there’s a much more deep-seated one, which is the antipathy towards the whole idea of America.”

Gurdon believes, beyond temporary partisan anger, there’s a deeper disdain growing toward America’s founding principles, and it is beginning to seep into the political mainstream, reshaping the Democratic Party.

“Unfortunately, the fringe is taking over the Democratic Party,” Gurdon says. “The Democratic Socialists [of America], the hardline leftists, are essentially being appeased by the old establishment left. The number of socialists in Congress after the next election is going to more than double. Socialism itself is inimical to the founding ideas of America.”

Gurdon notes international visitors coming for the FIFA World Cup are going viral for falling in love with America.

“Foreign nationals coming to the United States say, ‘What a fantastic country!'” Gurdon says. “‘Why are you guys so down on yourselves? This is a marvelous country.'”
