Trump’s right, most don’t blame him for job losses: Poll

A majority of U.S. residents do not blame President Trump for the stunning fall-off in jobs since the coronavirus smashed into his humming economy, according to a new survey.

In fact, the latest Economist/YouGov Poll shows that “just one-third” blame the president, and many of those are Democrats.

Overall, 33% said Trump bears all or most of the blame for the historic levels of unemployment due to state economic shutdowns. More, 57% said he bears some or no blame. And 11% are “not sure.”

As with everything Trump, the partisan split is huge. Among Democrats, 54% blame Trump for all or most of the unemployment. Among Republicans, 77% said Trump deserves some or none of the blame.

In a Fox News appearance today, the president was asked about the new and high unemployment figures. “Nobody blames me for that,” he said.

The Democratic Party seized on that comment and said, “First off, we do blame him. Trump’s failure to act early on severely exacerbated this crisis and significantly worsened its impact on the economy.”
