Oregon police investigating shooting that led to ‘multiple deaths’

Oregon state police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that led to the death of multiple people in Salem, Oregon, on Monday.

Officials said “multiple people” died after deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a “possible hostage situation” at a home in east Salem, according to the Salem Statesman Journal.

Officers arrived on the scene, and negotiators from the sheriff’s office attempted to communicate with the individual believed to have taken several people hostage and “shots were fired,” according to Oregon officials.

The identities of the persons and who shot them were unavailable on Tuesday morning, but the report said no deputies were injured. Sgt. Jeremy Landers, a representative with the sheriff’s office, declined to provide more details to the outlet.

Officials with the state police said that any officer involved in the shooting will be placed on paid leave while the investigation into the situation is resolved.
