The second suspect in a 2009 Arlington County slaying has been extradited to Virginia to face a first-degree murder charge, according to court records.
Javon Martin, 24, of the District, is accused of fatally beating and stabbing 57-year-old Carl Diener in Clarendon in the early-morning hours of Dec. 29, 2009.
Court records show he has been extradited from the District, where he was arrested last Wednesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20.
Police allege that Martin and 20-year-old Roger K. Clark III, of Severn, killed Diener as Diener was walking to his job at a gym. Clark was arrested last Monday in Montgomery County and has also been extradited to Virginia and faces a bond hearing Thursday.
The slaying happened at about 2:50 a.m. on the 3200 block of N. 13th Street in the Clarendon area. The attack stunned Diener’s friends, family and colleagues, and a $25,000 reward was offered for information that led to his killer.
